Christian Nationalism Won’t Stop with Trans People—Everyone in the Adult Fantasy and Fetish World Is at Risk

There’s a common misconception floating all around that says: Christian nationalism only threatens trans people, drag performers, and the LGBTQ+ community. But if you’re someone who enjoys any kind of adult-oriented fantasy, alternative identity play, or erotic expression outside of a rigid conservative mold—listen really closely: you are not exempt.

I know a lot of people who are into fetish play, cosplay, cross-dressing, furries, anime-inspired characters, kinksters and role play like “mean schoolteacher” scenarios—you name it. It’s playful, consensual, adult fun. But even though many of these folks don’t identify as trans or gay, they often forget they fall under the broader umbrella of non-conformity that Christian nationalism wants to stamp out.

Let’s be real: Christian nationalism isn’t just about religion. It’s about control. It’s about enforcing a strict code of what is “normal,” “moral,” and “acceptable.” And that code doesn’t leave room for kink, fetish communities, sexual exploration, or anyone who steps outside the box of heteronormative, procreative, patriarchal values.

If you think you’re safe because your play happens behind closed doors, think again. These movements gain traction by first targeting the most visible and vulnerable, like trans kids and drag performers. But the goal doesn’t end there. They’re already moving to ban books, rewrite sex ed, regulate what can be taught in schools, and dictate what can be worn in public spaces. How long before they turn their attention to what happens in your bedroom, or at your private adult event, or on your anonymous social media page?

This is a warning, but also a call to action.

Most of the restrictive laws—the ones that tighten the leash on freedom of expression—are passed at the state level. That means the midterm elections matter immensely. Your governor, your state legislature, your attorney general—all of them shape the policies that determine how much power Christian nationalism has in your daily life.

If you’re in the fetish world, if you care about freedom of sexual expression, if you believe that adults should be allowed to explore identity and pleasure without state surveillance—you need to vote. These movements depend on people like you staying apolitical, assuming your niche is too obscure to be targeted. That complacency is what gives them room to spread.

Christian nationalism isn’t just coming for the “others.” It’s coming for anything it sees as deviant, different, or disobedient. Don’t let them catch you sleeping. Vote like your freedom depends on it—because it def does.

Christian nationalism’s influence on state legislation poses significant risks to various forms of adult sexual expression, including those within fetish and fantasy communities. This movement seeks to enforce a narrow set of moral standards, often leading to restrictive laws that can impact consensual adult activities.

Just a Handful Recent Legislative Actions To Think About:

• Oklahoma’s Proposed Pornography Ban: In February 2025, Oklahoma State Senator Dusty Deevers introduced SB 593, aiming to prohibit all forms of pornography and impose severe penalties, including up to 10 years in prison for production, distribution, or possession. Deevers, also a pastor, has introduced multiple bills targeting activities he deems immoral, reflecting a broader agenda to legislate personal behavior based on specific religious beliefs.

• Age Verification Laws in Florida and Texas: States like Florida and Texas have enacted laws requiring stringent age verification for accessing adult content online. These laws have led to major adult websites withdrawing services from these states due to privacy concerns and the burdensome nature of compliance. Such measures not only restrict access but also set precedents for further regulation of adult content.

• Book Bans and Censorship: The 2023-2024 academic year saw over 10,000 books banned in U.S. public schools, a significant increase from the previous year. Many of these bans targeted materials with LGBTQ+ themes or sexual content, indicating a growing trend of censorship influenced by conservative moral standards.

Here’s Some Historical Context To Think About:

Historically, U.S. obscenity laws have been used to suppress sexual expression deemed immoral. While many such laws have been invalidated or fallen out of use, the resurgence of Christian nationalist influence has led to renewed efforts to regulate and criminalize various forms of adult sexual expression.

Call to Action:

Given that many of these restrictive policies are enacted at the state level, participation in state and local elections is crucial. Members of fetish and fantasy communities, along with all who value personal liberty and freedoms, should be aware of the potential impact of Christian nationalist agendas on their rights. Voting in midterm elections and staying informed about local legislative developments are essential steps in protecting the freedom of consensual adult expression.

By actively engaging in the democratic process, individuals can help ensure that diverse forms of adult expression are respected and safeguarded against ideologically driven legislative encroachments.
